How we started

Since 2002, the Melidou winery has been enriching with new ideas and flavors old, beloved varieties of black Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and white Chardonnay grapes from excellent quality vines.

The vineyards of the Melidos family, following the “wine culture”, with deep knowledge and love create essences of truth in which are reflected the everyday life, the passions and the dreams of the Greek tradition.

Unique quality from excellent quality vineyards

Our winery is located in Sidirokastro of Serres Greece and is a small family business. We have chosen the school of small production and High quality. Our vineyard is in an area with an altitude of about 180 meters and is located in the lower valley of the Strymonas river with the Lake Kerkini at the west which is an important regulatory climate factor.
Production yields do not exceed 7500 kg per hectare, a necessary condition for the quality of the final products. The varieties we grow are MERLOT CABERNET SYRAH CHARDONNAY and we could not omit the excellent Greek varieties ASIRTIKO and MALAGOUZIA known for their lively acidity and aromas of white flowers.
The sloping sandy loam soil and shale subsoil give our wines rare minerality and aromas such as violet and myrrh. The north wind that blows incessantly during the growing season contributes to the excellent hygiene of the raw material and to the harmonious accumulation of sugars, a fact that ensures high alcohol levels and an exuberant bouquet of aromas during their maturation in the barrel.
Since 2006 we have established our small winery next to our house and the family estate which you find in the valley of the Krousovitis river. Since 2009 we have obtained a bottling license. In 2010 the wines of the area obtained the PGI title and in 2012 we were given the right to use the label KTIMA MELIDOU.
